Vary the angles you take your pictures from. Try squatting down and shooting up. Try getting higher and shooting down on your subject. In a full-length portrait, an eye-level shot will make your subject look shorter. An upward shot taken from a squat will more accurately indicate height and can lend an aura of authority to your subject. High angle portraits are generally unflattering but could be used to eliminate a distracting background.
